Keeping your PSP clean, safe and working properly
Game Forum wrote a topic on this, but I cannot see the tips he had put down, so if it didnt come out on the site, I will write my top tips for keeping your PSP clean, safe and working properly
Rule 1: Always use your PSP properly. Dont carelessly wave it around when walking or touch the screen or frantically mash the buttons. Doing any of these will not make your PSP last in appearance and performance. Touching the screen alot will break pixels causing colors to permanently stay on the screen when off and on, and it could break the Screen. Ive seen alot of people walk around with there PSP's in there hand. Number one, someone can easily snatch it from your hand and run off with it, and two, you could drop it or loosen an internal part from so much movement.
Rule 2: Always put your PSP away in a pouch or case when not in use. Avoid leaving your PSP on your bed or desk or anywhere not in a case, because dust particles and hair can get inside the screen or buttons or anywhere else where it should not be. My friends PSP Slim has a big black hair sitting in the bottom of the screen, lucky for him I mod and know how to take a PSP slim and regular models apart properly. Also, when dust and other small things get into the small space around the buttons, they make the buttons sticky and sometimes make loud clicking noises similar to those that the buttons on a keyboard make. A pouch or case just makes it so much easier to take care of and keep in good shape
Rule 3: Always wipe down your PSP after each use with a Nylon cloth. Not specifically a nylon cloth but if you want to avoid scratching from any other other material I suggest using a nylon cloth. Especially on the Piano Black and Black PSP's, fingerprints and scratches show everywhere you touch. So by wiping down the PSP after each use is the best way to keep from the PSP having permanent marks or stains or smudges. Also, with a Nylon cloth you should wipe the screen as well. This type of cloth is the best type for wiping screens on digital cameras, cell phones, PDA's, PSP's and other portable machines with screens.
Rule 4: Always protect your Screen!. Scratches, smudges, dents, cracks, and marks are the most common damage to happen to any portable device with a screen. So, protect your PSP with a PSP Screen protector. Generally very inexpensive, a screen protector will keep almost anything from harming your screen when applied properly. Without a screen protector, you will have smudges, marks, and scratches all over your screen before you know it. And it happens to everyone no matter how careful you are. When buying a PSP screen protector, make sure it has a "No Stick" guarantee on the package before you buy. You dont want to find glue on your screen after you peel your protector off to apply a new one after it gets dirty, glue will not come off.
Rule 5: Always keep your gaming under a two hour period of time. Extended time can have major effects such as overheating the battery and causing leakage, or causing internal function effects that will make the PSP not function properly. Overheating has also been a big problem with "Breaking pixels". Overheating somehow causes the PSP and other gaming handhelds to "pop" the display crystals under your screen, which then is a real pain due to colors and marks always on your screen when playing and when turned off.
Rule 6: Open and close the UMD tray with caution. You cant just open it up, shove in your UMD and slam it closed. especially with the new PSP Slim models. The UMD trays are very flimsy, and it takes very little force to snap, break or become very loose which will then eventually cause the tray to fall off. Heres a tip on what I do. First, put your finger about an inch behind the UMD tray (where it opens) and open the tray. Stop the tray from swinging open and let it hit your finger. You might think this is "force" hitting the tray but its twice as safe as just letting it fly open. This way, your tray doesnt fly open and eventually over time, get very, very loose.
Rule 7: Use the Analog with care. Dont push it hard until it wont go any further like some would to a home console controller. The Analog on the PSP is very small and agile, so handle with care. Over time, no matter how gentle you are, it will fall off or become very loose. After this happens, you would obvioussly get it repaired and its generally not very costly. But, to avoid making it a monthly bill, use it with care and dont use it aggresively, even on those fighting games that require alot of movement.
Rule 8: Use Sony accessories only. I know that there are other brands out there like MadCatz, Intec etc, but they are not guaranteeing you a properly working product like Sony is. Besides the fact that it is Sony's product and Sony accessories for it will work best, it is just smart to use Sony products for your accessories unless you want to take the risk. Not pointing any fingers, but lets say another gaming company that wasnt Sony, had a cheap product we found at a game store (Screen Protector) my friend bought for his PSP, and when he took it off about a month later there was glue all over the screen. So use Sony products for best guarantee and warranty.
These are my basic rules for keeping your PSP in good working condition and keeping it looking nice and new
