Thread: PS2 to be discontinued soon?

Sony has already shut down repairs for the current ps2 owners. I have called them and they say they no longer fix the system. They went on to say that I could purchase a Refurbished unit for 40 dollars. I know a life span for a system is short if a new one comes out. They stopped fixing the PS1 6 months after the ps2 came out. They pulled the PS1 plug shortly after. Is this a precurser to a possible PS2 shutdown soon. I know Sony has pretty much dropped advertising for the system. Everyonce and awhile I see an ad but its really rare.

I wouldn't be too surprised. They discarded the PS1 rather quickly after the 2nd Gen came out, so I'm sure they'll do the same here. The only thing that might slow down the system being discontinued would be any future PS2 games.

I think that it would be stupid on the part of sony. Alot of people refuse to pay for the ps3 and the ps2 is still very popular. Newer doesn't mean better. Shame on you Sony!!

I think Sony is making a big mistake, they should continue supporting PS2 for them to get a larger share of the market. Those who can afford PS3 can go for it and those who can't afford it can still enjoy playing Playstation products using PS2.

yeah they should continue releasing ps2.. this is a great platform and many gamer still play with it because of the high price of ps3.. And title in ps2 is nice.

My opinion, sony will have to continue on to manufacture the ps2 atleast for another year or two. Even with the discounted price on the ps3, many people are still not willing to put down $400 for a new system. And plus, there are sooo many games for the ps2 still...It would be dumb for sony to just take the ps2 out of the spot and have a bunch of ps2 games laying around.

yeah i didn't even tried all game in ps2 out there? there is so much to offer i think this game should not yet be faced out.

I also think it is a mistake to do that, they think they are going to increase the PS3 selling by doing that, but I'm afraid it is not going to happen!

I have an old MP3 player already replaced (No longer available on their website even).

I asked them if they could fix it, they send me an e-mail back saying "Sure, here's the info, send a 25 dollar check and we'll get right on it" not even one week later I was enjoying my MP3 player once more.

Sony... they're becoming horrific.

If you buy a product from so and so company they should fix it no matter what, the parts shouldn't be that difficult to replace especially if it's old.

This is not to surprising to me but I am sure that the ps2 is going to live on for a few more years due to the extremely high price for the PS3. Once the PS3 drops below 300 that is when the ps2 is going to die much quicker.
