My Pre Modded Wii DVD Drive WiiKey 2
Recently my Wii was knocked off of my entertainment center while it still had a game in it. It didn't fall far so I expected everything to be fine. The Wii being of such a high standard of manufacturing quality and all.
Well I tried to eject the disk and all I got was a whirring sound, no disk popped out. Here we go I thought. Time to take my Wii apart.
Here is a post with a Wii disassembly tutorial for those wishing to take on this task.
I began to disassemble my Wii and realized I needed a special screwdriver for some of the screws. The screwdriver is called a Tri-Wing+Cros wing Screwdriver. It is used for the Nintendo DS and the Wii. I was able to find one on ebay for a reasonable price. Here is a link to the screwdriver you will need. So after ordering the screwdriver and getting it in the mail I finally continued to take my Wii apart. I finally got the thing broke down and realized the disk was knocked loose. I figured this was the cause of the problem. I got the disk out and put my Wii back together. So far so good. I then plugged it back in and hit the power button. No problem yet. I tried to put a disk in and the Wii just would not take it. I either screwed up the drive when I was taking out the disk or it was done when the Wii hit the floor. Either way I was determined to fix it.
I knew there were companies that sold pre modded Wii DVD drives so I started to look around. I found a few companies. One of which refused to send pre modded Wii drives to the US. The also charged a pretty hefty sum for the drive. For those outside the US and who don't mind paying the price here is a link. I searched for a while and finally found a company named Mod Supplier. They offered a pre modded Wii DVD drive for a $134. Thats a great deal really. I found drives that were not modified for around the same price. Here is a link to the drive I ordered. I was able to pay an extra $24.50 for 3-4 day shipping.
I have not received the drive yet as I just ordered it. Hopefully I will have it in a few days and I will be able to update this post with my results. Wish me luck. If anyone can offer me some advice it would be much appreciated.

I got my wii a few months ago from Owens/Corning like a co-op thing. I put the wiikey 2 in myself. It came from mod supplier faster than the 16 working days they told me. 6 days air mail. PLaying backups like crazy and loving it.

Awesome. I got my drive with the chip on a Wii Clip in a few days from modsupplier.com. They were really quick to get the product to me.
It was super easy to install. I installed the drive and I was in business. I can download ISO files and burn them very easily. I usually download games from Demonoid.com. It's an invite only torrent site.
I just ordered everything i need to rip Wii games as well. I ordered an LG GDR 8164B - Disk drive from amazon. I'm waiting on that. This way I can rent Wii games and rip them if I want. I don't have to wait so long to download games.

do you have to have the dvd drive? what about a mod chip alone?

I have a question maybe someone can help. I have a drive key ordered from mod supplier.com. The back up iso files worked great and had no problem playing the games. I recently updated my Wii and now I can not play any new iso files on my Wii, I tried about 5 different games thinking maybe the files were broken. I can play the older files before the update, but can't play new ones or my original games. Does anyone know how to correct this problem??
