Thread: Okay... now the question I bet everyone's been dying to ask

Why ever did Nintendo call it the Wii ? I mean, what kind of a name is that ? how can anyone not be embarassed asking for directions to the Wii in public ? I mean, did you really ask where you could get a Wii ? seriously ?

I'd love to know this, has anyone actually asked a salesperson that ? how do you do it, I mean, really ? help me out here, there's no way I'm going to ask a salesperson for a Wii in public :P

The system was codenamed the "Nintendo Revolution" if i remember correctly. All of a sudden they switched it to the "Wii". Do you remember how much the press and media ate up the "Wii" name before it was even released? Perhaps they did it for the attention, or maybe the "Wii" means something more in Japan.

Apparently the two i's are meant to resemble two people standing side by side, and the name sounds like "we," emphasizing the fact that they specifically intended the console to be geared towards everyone. What a load of hippie cheese. :P Well, I agree with many people's opinion of the name being somewhat "childish" sounding compared to its original name, "Revolution"... but, then again, that's what I love about Nintendo. There games ARE for everyone, for the "kid" in you... I love their games

Yeah, I think the number one complaint about the name is that "Wii" sounds a little bit childish, but that's the number one complaint about Nintendo in general. Nintendo aims at kids most of the time, but I enjoy a lot of their games so it really doesn't bother me!

Ah, people can say that, but when it comes down to it, you could leave the most hardcore Halo/WoW/Gears of War WHATEVER player in a room with a Wii and I promise you they'll be playing it and enjoying it by the time you come back. ;P Everyone enjoys a "simple" and "childish" game once in a while. Nothing beats a good old game of Mario.

Yup, playing Ecco Jr just now, very relaxing game, unlike the notoriously hard Ecco 1 and 2.

Maybe I'll play Flicky afterwards.

Oh my god, they made a new Ecco?! I remember being little, getting this game, wanting SO bad to love it, getting frustrated being unable to get past the very first part, telling myself I loved it, throwing it away, telling myself I loved it...

Nintendo Revolution was such a kick ass name. It was a name I could get behind.

Now we have the Nintendo Wii. I hate it. I loathe it.
