Default How-To Safely Soft Mod Your Wii To Run Homebrew

So on the ninth of this month a new homebrew loader was released to the public. So far this seems to be a really good example of the potential of the Twilight Hack. It replicates the Wii menu and allows you to customize channel images and names for your Homebrew titles.

This loader will run all the current Homebrew titles and supports 36 apps (channels). This loader requires a copy of Twilight Princess. The loader was authored by an overseas homebrewer so I have included a link to a translated copy of the site below as well as written step by step how to guide for getting things rolling.

On the inner circle of the Twilight Princess CD you will find some jargon numbers. This actually tells you what version you have. You will need one of the following versions to run the Twilight Hack Exploit

Euro RVL-RZDP-0A-0 JPN
Asia RVL-RZDJ-0A-0 JPN
America RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN
America RVL-RZDE-0A-0 USA
America RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA

What You Will Need:Step 1: Format the SD Card to FAT16 (For Windows users it’s just named FAT)

Step 2: If not already placed create a directory in the CD card called “/private/wii/title/RZDx/” on your SD card; replace “RZDx” with RZDE, RZDP or RZDJ as appropriate.
Copy the above file into that directory, renaming it as “data.bin”.

Step 3: Copy the Wii Homebrew Launcher boot.elf on the SD card. Create a folder homebrew on root of the SD card.

Step 4: Download some Homebrew apps that you find appealing to you. Create a subfolder for each app in the Homebrew directory of the SD card (Max 8 characters). Copy the Homebrews elf file to the directory and make sure it’s named boot.elf

Step 5: Throw the SD card in your Wii and turn it on. Go into Wii Options –> Data Management –> Save Data –> Wii. Find your Zelda save, click on it, and click “Erase”, and click Yes. Now go into SD card, and select the “Twilight Hack” save (the icon says “Wiibrew Loader”). Click copy, and yes. Now, go back out of that menu.

Step 6: Insert Zelda, and run the game. Load file A, and either walk backwards, or talk to the guy that’s standing in front of you.
Presto! You should soon see a familiar interface with all the installed custom Homebrew channels . To navigate the application you will need a GameCube controller.

Controls:
UP / DOWN / LEFT / RIGHT: Select Homebrew
A: Start a selected Homebrew app
R / L: Changes the page (if more than 11 Homebrew)
Z: Refreshes the list of channels

That is an awesome hack, gonna try emulating a PSX on this so I can run my modded version of FFT. That game is as fun as Hell to hack.

i also have twilight-hack-v0.1-alpha3a , the "wiibrew loader" will not copy from the sd to the wii.

i have started a new game, ran around and then saved. entered the memory management and deleted the saved game and then accessed the SD card. when trying to copy the data.bin "rzde2.bin" it says "the data was not copied"

the old files copied ok, but then i realized i have version 3.3 so i grabbed the new loader. but no dice.

disk = rzde oa 2
loader = twilight-hack-v0.1-alpha3a

ive seen a lot of people have this problem. hopefully someone comes by with a solution. if someone feels inclined to email me please feel free to do so. thanks
