Thread: A Few Questions About Backups

  1. A Few Questions About Backups

    Hi,

I am about to try my 1st back up, i have just received my LG drive which if your in the uk, search on ebay under LG Wii Backup and you should find plenty of these drives. I got mine for £25 plus £5 postage, not bad.

I have read the Wii tutorial, one small prob that I can see is I have Nero Smart Essentials 7 and I cant find how to get the screen to just burn the image. I have looked at the alternative to nero imgburn but i'm not familiar with this program. Can any one advise how to just burn the image on Nero Smart Essentials 7 or proivide a tutorial to imgburn.

Also I am going to have to get the Argon Chip for my console, I see that there are regular updates to the firmwear, Will i need to get these if i'm just using the chip for playing my back up games. I have no intrest in having the conole unlocked to play games from all regions, all i want to do is play back ups.

The last one is a long shot. I am purchasing my Argon Chip from modchip stoore in the UK for £35, does any one have any knowlage of a mod chip fitter in the South of England, pref Southampton, Portsmouth or Bournemouth as I dont want to send my console through the post.

Thanks for your help guys, sorry its a long post but just finding my feet.

    Steve

  2. Don't burn using Nero use imgburn ImgBurn Download - Softpedia

By the way don't get an Argon Chip, they are really bad. All the Wii's that are not reading burned/backed games after a while are using Argon Chips. (Get a D2C Pro, I mod Wii's)

  3. Hi,

Thanks for that, I have just downloaded imgburn, i take it that you just use the write an image file to disc icon then select the iso file from the rawdump 2.0 folder on the desktop, this seems alot more straight forward than using nero.

Finges crossed i'll be able to test irt today, although i wont be able to test the disk as the machine is not mod chiped yet.

    Thanks

You have to select the folder with the magnifie glass to select a file. Than to write it to a disk you have to click on the folder to disk icon.

  5. Hi,

The first backup seems to of gone well, the dump took 1hr 50 mins, the file was in the rawdump 2.0 and seems to of burned ok to disc although i cant test it at the moment.

Is it normal for the disc to eject at the end then the machine took it back in and finished off. It didnt flag up any errors, just wondering if that always happens with imgburn,

  6. Thanks

Forgot to say in my previous thread, thanks for all your help, i'm looking forward to testing my backups when i get the mod chip.

Yes, it should always open up and close again when using Imgburn

  8. Thanks again

    Hi,

Thats great thanks looks like i have it all sussed now.

One last question, I see most chips need firmwear updates, is this just so they run region free. As i said before I only want to play back ups, will i still need to get the latest firmwear updates to continue playing backups or will it be ok left with the firmwear on the chip when its installed.

My console is not connected to the net, i only use the ps3 online.

Thanks again for all your help, its much appreciated.

It will be ok left with the chip but maby later on you will have too. The only reason you will have to update is because if Nintendo starts making games with different enscription the mod wont be able to read it so you will have to update to play the newer games.

If you get a game from a different region say; Pal or NTSC-JAP and you want to make it NTSC-USA use a program called wiu1.1 to patch it to your region. And sometimes games need to be updated so once you finish downloading you check with wiu1.1 and it will say needs to be patched then you just click on the "Patch" button.

  10. Ok thats great thanks,

One of the modchip stores here in the uk have just released the Dc2 pro pre soldered onto a clip on wiikey device so i am going for that. Will let you know if my backups play once i get it fitted.

    Thanks for your help
