Hey, I`m doing research for a project I have due pretty soon, and I was wondering what effect you guys thought science fiction has had on the gaming community. Any input is welcome, good, bad, whatever.

science fiction has a large effect on gaming. Most games from everthing from the old spyro games all the way up to the new Resident Evil 5 are based on science fiction. whether you know it or not.

I think most games are either based on historical events or sci-fi. For example the game Dark Orbit that I am playing is so much like Star Trek, even down to the cloaking ability. Some of the ships look like versions of ships I have seen on Star Trek.

I think they're heavily influenced by SciFi. But, it gets distanced after a while since new games are based on old games which are based on older games which are based on a SciFi book/move/tvshow, so it gets distorted after a bit.
