Thread: Best engine/game for modding?

What is the best current game or engine for modding? Specifically graphical modding, as I want to get back into modeling, skinning, and maybe animating too. I used to do modding for Quake 3, but I think we can all agree that Q3's day has passed.

Well modern engines are expensive I played around with Sauerbraten for a while, it was really fun when I have the time again, I'll definitely give it another go. If you've got more time though, give it a try

Haha, I'm probably not going to work directly with an engine. I more meant an existing game that's moddable, kind of like quake 3 was. I don't have the skillz to do anything with standalone engines.
