From what i specifically know, PS2 is not being wiped out. Sony is still releasing video games for the PS2 and will be for much longer. PS3 is the higher definition of gaming, PS2 is the standard, but Sony realizes that most parents and people just cant afford the high priced PS3 so they are still keeping PS2 alive.
