Yeah, you really need to play the first to understand it, but Xenosaga 2 is always considered the worst of the 3. Your better off buying 1, then buying 3 and just read the synopsis for 2.
That's what I'm planning, and do not EVER refer to the lovely KOS-MOS as "some fighting robot". She kicks serious ass <3
